LSOC Honors Veteran’s November 13th, 2008

vets-day-2_edited.jpgOn Tuesday, November 11, 2008, Life School continued our tradition of honoring our Veterans.  The assembly began with the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas flags, led by second grade students, D’Mauryea Gutierrez and Myles Jones.  Next, Mrs. Spann’s homeroom, 5B, sang in unity “America the Beautiful/Let Freedom Ring.” Mrs. Witte welcomed our Veteran guests and offered Life School’s heart felt gratitude for their service.  After a brief video entitled, “Our National Treasure-Freedom”, Mrs. Pulver, our sixth grade Science teacher, introduced her husband, Mr. Pulver who was our keynote speaker.

LSOC Talent Safari November 13th, 2008

oc-talent-show-103108-106.jpgOn October 31, 2008, Life School Oak Cliff went on “A Talent Hunt”! Our MCs took us on a safari excursion searching for talent and certainly got an eyeful and earful! Fourth through sixth grade students were spotted doing some very amazing things. Many were found to have an extraordinary ability for dancing and singing. Others had an astonishing knack for miming. Still the hunt sauntered on with a riveting recitation of poetry and piano performances. And last but certainly not least, Life School’s safari tour came upon a group of young ladies who were learning the meaning of respect in a very animated and comical skit! To put it quite simply, Life School Oak Cliff is a huge catch when it comes to talent!

Express Yourself Poetry Competition November 6th, 2008

fourth-grade-poetry-workshop-and-competiton-doc.jpgAll fourth grade Life School students participated in a poetry workshop with professional poet, Ms. Von Jones.  Ms. Jones taught the students how to write poetry by sharing exciting, meaningful tips.  With these tips, the students were able to create and share their work with their classmates.  Our school librarian, Ms. Pegues, wishes to thank all fourth grade teachers for their assistance, Mr. Sanchez, Ms. Ford, Mrs. Rudd, and Mrs. Moore.

The purpose of this workshop was to promote Dallas Public Library’s Express Yourself Thirteenth Annual Youth Poetry Competition.  All Life School students in grades 2-12 may participate in this contest.
