Life School Sixth Grade Leadership Training Day May 8th, 2012

Sixth Grade Leadership Day 3 300x225 Life School Sixth Grade Leadership Training DayOn May 3, 2012, twenty Life School Oak Cliff sixth grade students, chosen for demonstrating leadership, participated in a leadership training day.  The first stop was at the offices of PriceWaterHouseCoopers in downtown Dallas.  Mr. Mike Higgins, spoke to our students about what it means to be a leader.  He encouraged them to work on developing good communication skills, to read about the lives of great leaders and to serve in their communities.  PriceWaterHouseCoopers gave the students some mementos of their visit including a backpack and some sun glasses.  The next stop was for lunch at the Plaza of the Americas followed by a trolley ride through downtown Dallas.  Throughout our trip we received many comments about the mannerly and respectful behavior of our students.

In a thank you letter to PwC, Ariel Alvizo wrote, “Thank you for letting us visit and teaching us about leadership.  I love the things that you do help your community with people volunteering.  One thing I learned was about mastering leadership and showing good character to other people and showing good communication.”

Thank you to the sixth grade teachers, Mr. Jackson, Mr. DeJesus, Mrs. Pulver and Ms. Gray for encouraging leadership in their students.  Thank you to Ms. Gray and Mrs. Calhoun for spearheading the sixth grade leadership project. Ms. Gray was a chaperone for the trip, Coach Moore did an amazing job of navigating the streets of downtown in the bus and Coach Chester arranged transportation.
