	Life School is hosting an Education Summit on Tuesday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m. at its Red Oak campus. Parents from all Life School campuses have been invited to attend this nonpartisan event that will focus on education in Texas. State Representatives Helen Giddings, Jim Pitts, and Bill Zedler have agreed to participate and will share from their wide range of knowledge and experience. City officials from local communities have been invited, along with members of the media. The forum with moderated pre-selected questions will be informative for parents and those interested in educational issues. As you can imagine, many state legislators appreciate the impact of school choice for parents. As servants in a public charter school, we witness this power of choice in the lives of children and parents every day. Educators and government officials must work together to advance educational initiatives that move the State of Texas to the prominence in education that it deserves. Program highlights will include a choral performance of over 750 Life School students from several childrens choirs and a celebration of the schools 10-year anniversary. Parents will receive extra parenting points for attending this hallmark event. We hope you will join us on Tuesday, November 18, for the Life School Education Summit.

		Life School Oak Cliff Athletic Update
	The Life School Oak Cliff fall sports programs are wrapping up their season with tremendous growth and success. The volleyball teams in both the junior high and high school showed strong improvement in each match and played extremely well against some of the toughest competition in the area. The football program experienced record participation this season, with several players listed as top-ten statistical leaders by The Dallas Morning News. The cross-country teams competed at several large meets and topped off their season with a strong showing at the district meet, where one of our athletes qualified for the regional meet. Basketball season is just around the corner and the teams have already begun practice. Both the boys and girls programs are eager to build on last season success, with the Lady Lions attempting to defend their district championship. As participants in one of the most competitive U.I.L. 2A-districts in the state, their challenging schedules sho uld provide excitement for parents, friends and fans of Life School Athletics! We are proud of our basketball student-athletes and wish them the most successful season ever!

Life School Red Oak Athletic Update

LSRO Volleyball Team

This fall was the inaugural year for Life School Red Oak participation as a UIL member school. The high school volleyball and girls cross country team clinched the first-ever district championships, while the junior high volleyball and cross-country teams finished at the top of their respective district standings. With the addition of a junior varsity team this year, all three Red Oak football teams performed well in the Mustang second season of a strongly developing football program.

Basketball season also affords an opportunity for post-season opportunities as Life School Red Oak competes at the varsity level for the first time in its history! All home games will be played at the Life School Oak Cliff campus gymnasium this season. We look forward to an exciting year for Mustang basketball!

Life School Receives Picturing America Project

Life School principals are excited about the beautiful resources obtained from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to enhance student learning of American history. Picturing America is an innovative program established by the NEH to educate children about the great people, places, and signature events in American history. Materials include forty 24 x 36 color reproductions of carefully selected works of art spanning several centuries all by American painters, sculptors, photographers, and architects.

Life School applied for this special collection last spring and campuses received them this fall. Teachers will use these beautiful masterpieces to enhance the study of American history, social studies, language arts, literature, and civics. Life School appreciates the creativity, innovations and generosity of the NEH in developing this outstanding curriculum supplement for students to experience American history through our nation��s art.

Life School Oak Cliff Letter Jacket Presentation

An Evening of Recognition was the theme of a celebration as Life School Oak Cliff honored over 60 students by awarding them a varsity letter jacket on Friday, October 24. The students and their families met in Hanson Hall for a reception hosted by the Life School Athletic Department and Life Lions Athletic Booster Club. LSOC High School Principal Keith Shull spoke to guests about the students remarkable achievements and the cherished memories and accomplishments represented by the awarding of a varsity letter jacket.

Following the reception in which the students received their letter jackets and certificates, the new varsity letter winners and their families were escorted to the football stadium as guests of Life School and watched the Life School Lions vs. Maypearl Panthers varsity football game. At halftime, the students and their parents stood at mid-field as Life School Athletic Director Andy Chester introduced the students and noted their outstanding achievement s in the area of athletics as well as extraordinary accomplishments in academics.

Life School Oak Cliff Athletic Booster Club officers were introduced to the halftime crowd and praised for their tireless efforts in serving the Lions athletic program and providing for the letter jackets each year. Officers this year include President Robert Drake, Vice President Leon Zeno, Secretary Iva Price, Treasurer Kay Bateman, and Fundraiser Coordinator Lora King.

Life School Red Oak Participate in World Food Day

To observe and commemorate World Food Day, the Life School Red Oak Student Council hosted a canned food drive on its 7th-10th grade campus. Students reviewed heart-wrenching accounts of starving people worldwide. In response to the desperate need, students decided to take action by organizing a collection of canned goods to donate to the local food bank. In order to create campus-wide involvement, the Council organized a homeroom competition. Each class created a sculpture from their collected goods. Some of the sculptures included a mustang, the Eiffel Tower, and the Roman Coliseum. The class that collected the most cans and displayed the most creativity won a Free Dress Day. The second place class received jean coupons. Beyond the competition, students demonstrated compassion in a practical way by donating over 1,000 canned goods to the local food bank. By demonstrating a spirit of giving and a willingness to participate in positive community involvement, our Red Oak stud ents exhibited the core values embodied in the school�s mission statement. We applaud and appreciate their efforts.

Life School Oak Cliff 7th Grade Science Project

7th Grade Rockets

Life School Oak Cliff 7th grade science classes recently completed a fascinating study on mass, inertia, and speed. As a final assignment for the unit, students worked in teams of three to build rockets of various masses. These rockets will be launched to varying altitudes of 700 to 1,000 feet using a D motor � to demonstrate proof of Sir Isaac Newtons second law of motion.

The rockets may be seen at the LSOC South Campus in room C-4 through the fall semester. We are proud of our students and anticipate that some of them may become our future engineers and scientists. For more information contact LSOC Science teacher David Mensik.

Life School Lancaster Holds Mock Elections

Students cast their votes!

Life School Lancaster held a mock student election Tuesday, November 4th. In preparation for this event, Principal DeWayne Parker read information about each candidate for 5 consecutive days. The polls were open from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Classes had scheduled times to come and vote. Also faculty, staff and any parents on campus voted.

The candidates were presidential nominees, Barack Obama and John McCain. The winner will be announce Wednesday, November 5th and compared with the national vote so the students may see how our vote as a school compared to the United States as a whole.

Life School McKinney Star Performers

Life School McKinney hosted its first annual Talent Show in October. Students displayed their talents by singing, dancing, speaking Mandarin Chinese, baton twirling, demonstrating the hula hoop, and performing mime and comedic skits. Kindergarten ballerina Leela Gali stole the hearts of the audience as she danced to the musical selection Music Box. Eugene Smith, III, performed a unique mime dance and Bryce Wilson ended the show with a beautiful solo. All students who participated in the Talent Show brought their very best to the stage. Life School McKinney is very proud of their star performers and appreciates the efforts of students and staff for contributing to the success of the show.

Life School Oak Cliff Talent Hunt

Talent Show Cast

The theme of the Life School Oak Cliff Talent Show this year was Talent Hunt. Students organized the event and displayed great performances. They served as emcees, ushers, and performances, with student graphic artists designing and producing the programs. Performances began with students singing and leading the audience in The Star Spangled Banner and the Life School Song. Many solos, dances, poetry and prose, and skits followed. The Life School Oak Cliff Talent Show committee did a great job in organizing this annual event, and the participants showed diligence and outstanding effort in practice and performance.

Life School Red Oak Has Talent

Life School Red Oak fourth through sixth graders performed in the school talent show on Friday, October 24th. Students displayed an amazing panorama of talent under the theme of Life Schools Got Talent. Acts included choreography, dance, tae-kwon-do, gymnastics, piano and guitar instrumental performances, and vocal solos and duets. The enthusiastic audience response was proof of the shows success! Special thanks to LSRO Music Director Mrs. Dana Sosebee for coordinating this fine program and for providing an opportunity for LSRO students to showcase their many diverse talents and giftings.
