The Life Oak Cliff Elmentary Library sponsored an African American History activity featuring Life school employees. Since we have such a wealth of gifted and talented staff members here at Life, the Librarian decided to center her activities around them for the month of February.

Mrs. Martindale presented “A Dramatic Interpretation of African American Poetry” featuring Mrs. Yutease Warren, Life School OC First Grade Instructional Aide. (more…)

LSL African-American Assembly

The Life School Lancaster African-American Assembly was held on Thursday, February 25. Pastor Fred Lynch, from The Mix in Dallas shared a message entitled “Focusing on Your Dreams Instead of Your Nightmares.” Pastor Lynch shared about his family’s journey from a traumatic experience that affected their lives for many years to a time of personal restoration and triumph. Students and guests were encouraged to focus on and work toward their dreams rather than replaying their nightmares (negative experiences or fears) in their minds. “Focus brings direction.” (more…)

LSOC - “Message in Our Music”

Life School Oak Cliff middle and secondary students collaborated to create and present an African American History program for their campus on Thursday, February 25. Faculty members encouraged students to use their leadership abilities to create a program that would educate and strengthen their peers and the community. Great leadership ability was demonstrated as students worked in groups that focused on the influence of music on African Americans throughout American history. (more…)

LSM Students Showcase History Through Art

During the Life School McKinney African American Museum, students completed art projects in honor of some African American citizens that have helped shape our nation’s history.

Some of the art projects included Kindergarten’s “unity wreath” and excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King’s passionate “I Have a Dream” proclamation.

In honor of Harriett Tubman, first graders made a large apple tree that hung from ceiling to floor. It was covered with apples that contained symbols of freedom. (more…)

LSRO Second Grade Spelling Bee

LSRO second graders competed in the campus Second Grade Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 23rd. After competing in individual class spelling bees, three students from each class qualified to participate in the final event.

Students prepared for the competition by learning and memorizing a list of 1,200 words. The hour-long competition was intense but three winners emerged. (more…)

LSOC Theatre Arts Students Visit Dallas Museum of Art

The Theatre Arts classes went to the Dallas Museum of Art to view the exhibit named “All the World’s a Stage.” Students were able to view performance art, costumes, and music from cultures all over the world and from ancient times to present. There were some 3-D music, dance, and abstract inspirational pieces that were especially enjoyable to students. Some students commented on the visit. (more…)

Life School Boys Basketball Teams Make History

For the first time in Life School history both the Oak Cliff and Red Oak Boys Basketball teams advanced to the regional quarterfinals in the state basketball playoffs. The Lions of Oak Cliff won their bi-district round against Crawford 55-38 and then beat Caddo Mills 47-38 in the area round. The Red Oak Mustangs downed Saint Jo 64-45 in bi-district and Waco Rapaport 47-42 in area. (more…)

Students volunteer at Shoes for Orphan Souls

On Feb. 2, Life School’s National Honor Society accompanied by the yearbook and newspaper staffs volunteered at a local organization called Shoes for Orphan Souls.

Shoes for Orphan Souls is an organization that is mainly operated by volunteers. The company collects new shoes from people all over the United States and sends them to orphans in several countries all over the world.
