Leadership Week for the class of 2008 was filled with a variety of activities. These included the Senior Walk, a Graduates Breakfast and a Graduates Luncheon. It all culminated with Commencement on May 30th. Click the “Learn More” link below for more detail and pictures.
The Senior Walk luncheon was a beautiful catered event where graduates and their guests were served. It consisted of a formal setting with linen tablecloths and napkins. A master of ceremonies recognized each student and a Power Point was presented that showcased childhood and studio photographs along with student accomplishments. The banquet room was lined with student memory boards, trophies, and other memorabilia. During the luncheon each student presented their parents a long-stem rose along with a note of appreciation that they had prepared during English classes. Parental support was important in making this event successful.
The following day Life School Oak Cliff graduates visited The Paper Plate, a catering food service in Oak Cliff. The office complex was beautifully decorated in the latest décor. Students were taken to the board room where owner and attorney Kim Carlisle shared a challenging message regarding communication for the interview and performance on the job. Each graduate was presented a copy of Steven Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. A wonderful breakfast was served under a white canopy on the lawn. The event was reminiscent of an upscale event in North Dallas.
After an outstanding breakfast, the students returned to Life School for a luncheon with Dallas County Community College Chancellor Dr. Wright Lassiter. Dr. Lassiter spoke and offered guidance and assistance to students seeking to improve their life and status through education.
The final event before graduation was a reception where the top honor graduates were recognized and introduced to board members and commencement speaker Thelma Wells. This event was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Graduation was the culmination of months of planning and labor. It was a spectacular evening filled with pomp and circumstance. Special guest speaker Thelma Wells inspired and motivated graduates and guests.
