The first annual Race for Education was a huge success! Students had fun and enjoyed the benefits of physical activities, and the fundraiser benefited the school. As of May 16th, over $55,000 have been collected in donations, with collections continuing through the end of the school year! With this level of success, PTO is looking forward to making the “Race for Education” an ongoing tradition at Life School Red Oak.
This spring the Life School Red Oak PTO sponsored a new “Race for Education”. Students solicited sponsorship from family and friends for their Race Day held on May 8th. Students completed their mailers during class time, and with the support of teachers and volunteers, 11,000 mailers were sent!
Students were eligible for prizes based on the number of mailers turned in. They received a free snack card (5 mailers), homework pass (10 mailers), and free dress day card (15 mailers). Also, for every 10 mailers turned in, students were entered in a drawing for a Nintendo Wii (one for each campus) and a grand prize of a HDTV w/DVD!
Race Day was a lot of fun with Life School Red Oak students walking or jogging on a ¼ mile track for 30 minutes. Superintendent Dr. Tom Wilson joined in the race with every age group that participated. The students’ hard work was rewarded with cold refreshments and the chance to dunk a coach in a dunking booth and toss a sponge at school administration! Other activities included a petting zoo, a bungee run, and a giant obstacle course!
