Red Oak Athletes Advance to Post-Season Competition
The Mustang boys golf team captured the school’s first golf district championship by winning the District 24-A title, played April 7 and 14 at Waco’s Connelly Golf Course. Danny de los Santos took first place and was joined by teammates Zach Hoover, Patrick Wilson, Alec Wilson and Calob Embrey at the Region III-A Tournament played April 19-20 at Piney Woods Golf Club in Nacogdoches. The Mustangs took 5th place out of 15 teams. Zach Hoover becomes Life Red Oak’s first-ever state qualifier and will compete in the State Golf Tournament to be held May 10-11 in Austin.
The Lady Mustangs repeated as the District 24-A Track Champions, qualifying 11 athletes for the Region III-A Area Meet which was held April 15 at Carthage High School. The Mustangs sent 9 to the Area Meet, with the following advancing to the Region III-A Meet to be held May 3-4 at Palestine High School: Charles Banks (Long Jump), Brashauna Thornton (400m), Alexis Taylor-Smith (discus) and Chelsea LaCour (high jump).
Oak Cliff Spring Athletes Advance to Regionals
The Lions and Lady Lions track teams recently competed in the District 15-AA Meet and 13 student-athletes have advanced to the Region II-AA Meet to be held May 3-4 at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Brianna Coats, Ashley Jennings, Lauren Phillips, Taylor Reed, Angelita Watts and Ayanna Williams qualified in the 4x100m and 4x200m Relays. Jennings also qualified in the long jump. Michael Williams won the 100m dash, qualifying for regionals and will join teammates Teverick Boyd, Carvin Thompson, Roderick Lancaster, Matthew Shellman, John Morrison and Jonathan Burton in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m Relays.
Lion golfer Aaron Carlton qualified for the Regional Golf Tournament which was held April 21-22 at Legends Country Club in Stephenville.
