Life School Red Oak’s fall athletic season is well under way. The Mustangs are enjoying the benefits of a year’s experience in several sports and the excitement of offering quality athletic programs for student participation.
This school year the Mustang athletic program added football for 7th-9th graders, with 56 student-athletes participating. Under the guidance of head coach Jeff Smith, the Mustangs adapted well to the wide-open style of the spread offense and have experienced success this season. Both the Red and Blue teams of LSRO have notched wins in their inaugural seasons and have gained valuable experience each week.
The 7th, 8th and 9th grade volleyball teams built on the benefits of a year of experience and achieved several victories, including the 7th grade team’s tournament championship at Corsicana. Most of Coach Daniel Dagen’s squads attended LSRO’s volleyball camp this summer and took advantage of open gym opportunities, which enhanced solid team play this season.
All of LSRO’s cross country teams are benefiting from participation in a campus course for training, which has helped the Mustangs improve their times at every meet this fall. Coaches Jeff Goldsmith and Andy Chester have 35 runners participating on four different teams, which have competed well in meets at Cleburne, Fort Worth and Maypearl.
With over 160 students participating in athletics in grades 7-9, the Mustang sports program continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Boys and girls basketball games will soon begin, and golf and track will gear up in late February. Next year, the Mustangs will begin competing as a UIL- member school and will add both high school softball and baseball.
