Life School Waxahachie juniors E.J. Madrigal and Peter Campbell were recently accepted into the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars Program. Students from across the state of Texas are nominated to participate by their state legislator through a competitive process.
During the school year, scholars will complete 10 web-based lessons. The lessons began in December and are due every two weeks. The assignments include a variety of activities such as reading online curriculum, writing essays, designing upgrades to be used on the Shuttle and ISS, solving math problems, and taking online quizzes. Each of the 10 lessons and a final project will be graded using the rubrics at the end of each lesson. Students are selected for the summer program based on completion of lessons, quality of work and timeliness. Those who are selected will attend a six-day summer session at the Johnson Space Center where they tour the facility, participate in hands-on engineering activities, hear briefings by astronauts, engineers, and other NASA experts, and receive mentoring by NASA engineers.
Congratulations to E.J. Madrigal and Peter Campbell for being nominated to participate in this program.
