When Life Red Oak golfer Kyle Carpenter finished his final round at the Region II-AA Tournament at Legend’s Golf Club in Stephenville, he knew he was glad the two-day endurance test was over.
With weather conditions ranging from rain to freezing temperatures to 30 mph winds, the competitors felt more like survivors. But when the final scores were posted, Carpenter knew he was going to get to play in a warmer environment—the UIL State Golf Tournament in Austin.
Carpenter becomes the third different Life Red Oak golfer to qualify for the state tournament in the last five years. His fellow Mustangs just missed an opportunity to head to Austin as a team, taking the fourth place spot, just 7 strokes out of the final team qualifying place.
Carpenter, coached by Michael Hirtzel, will tee off on Wednesday, April 30 at Roy Kizer Golf Course. For up to minute scoring and more tournament information, visit http://www.uiltexas.org/golf/state.
